Therapy That Understands the Culture of Service

Working extensively with military and first responder communities has shown me how critical it is to work with someone who gets it. Someone who understands:

  • The effects of hypervigilancePTSD, or always being “on”
  • The tension it brings into families and relationships
  • The struggle of transitioning to civilian life
  • And the deep resilience you already have

Here, therapy isn’t about fixing you. It’s about empowering you with tools to thrive — mentally, emotionally, and relationally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Individual therapy is a private and collaborative space where you can talk through challenges, gain insight, and build tools for healing and growth. Sessions are one-on-one with a licensed therapist who helps you process experiences, manage emotions, and navigate life’s transitions at your own pace. The focus is on you—your story, your strengths, and what you want to change or understand more deeply.

Yes. Therapy is a confidential space, even for active-duty service members and veterans. What you share stays private unless there’s a safety concern involving harm to yourself or others. Many military clients worry about stigma or career impact, but your sessions are protected by law and designed to support your mental health and overall readiness, not to harm it.

Therapy can support you through a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, stress, grief, and major life changes. It can also help with building confidence, setting boundaries, improving communication, and learning to regulate emotions. Whether you’re coping with something recent or healing from experiences in the past, therapy offers a space to find clarity and balance.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an evidence-based approach that helps the brain process distressing or traumatic experiences. During EMDR, you’ll focus on specific memories while using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds). This process helps reduce the emotional charge of painful memories so you can experience more peace, perspective, and relief from symptoms connected to trauma.

Therapy for first responders recognizes the unique stress, exposure, and culture of emergency work. It’s grounded in understanding the impact of chronic trauma, long hours, and the difficulty of “switching off” after critical incidents. Sessions focus on processing experiences safely, preventing burnout, and strengthening resilience—so you can keep showing up for others while taking care of yourself.

In most cases, no referral is needed. You can reach out directly to schedule an appointment at Fleeting Moments Therapy.

If you’re a civilian, veteran, or using private insurance, you can begin therapy without a referral.

If you’re active-duty military and plan to use TRICARE, a referral from your Primary Care Manager (PCM) is typically required for coverage. You’re always welcome to reach out directly if you’d like to discuss your options for private-pay or out-of-network care.
